Highly recommend this book to anyone considering LSAT prep. Before the reading comp book my results in this section were all over the place. One 4-passage section I would miss 12 questions, and the next I would miss two. In other words, I had no real strategy going into each section and my success was contingent upon the content of the passages. This book changed that. It helped me develop a consistent strategy that made passage content irrelevant to my success on the section, whether the passage was about the process by which honeybees communicate or the development of some obscure English literary figure's writing style, the strategy consistently produced results.
Fill disclosure: I, like many of the reviews present, received this book for free for an honest review in return.I've been studying for the September LSAT for approximately 3 months, and I've invested most of that time in Logical Reasoning and Analytical Reasoning -- Reading Comprehension, to me, is something that is constant and something I've seen before (AP English Language, AP Literature, ACT, SAT, etc.). I've used the PowerScore Bible's religiously, and these have gotten me to scoring anywhere between 2-5 wrong on any given LG or LR sections. I wasn't (and did not) going to purchase their RC Bible just because of the cost for it, instead electing to buy all PrepTest Booklets, as well as saving money to spend on Law School applications. So when I received the free trial for this book, I was actually pretty excited. It gave me the opportunity to learn from a trusted source and expand my knowledge on RC about a month before the September test. However, after finishing the book (and then rereading it over the last two weeks) I felt I was unable to really take anything away from the book that would severely impact my score on RC. Please note, however, that I just don't seem to get along with RC, on some practice tests, I'll score a -3 or -4 on it, and on others I'm getting anywhere between 7-10 wrong. It's frustrating.The book itself is well-written, easy to read, I think it is fit for those currently scoring in the 140-150's as well as those scoring in the 160's. Unfortunately, it just didn't work well for me. I'm not going to give it a 1-star because I think that's unfair, however I don't think it's deserving of a 4+ star, because I really wanted to love this book, but simply could not.
I think Blueprint's biggest advantage for me is that it teaches you how to efficiently manage your time. You learn how to prepare yourself upfront so that you see the passage's bigger picture and hit the questions without being blind-sided. Blueprint's method of marking up a passage with notes/commentary helps keep you on track and mark important details that often come up in the questions. Getting a solid hold of the reading comprehension will take a good amount of practice, and this book helps get you through that.Overall, pretty helpful.
I thought this LSAT prep book was great for breaking down the reading comprehension portion of the LSAT. It offers a great mixture of explanations (from more formal to their playful animated characters that explained difficult concepts in multiple ways) and try it yourself passages with explanations for both correct and wrong answers. Very easily adaptable techniques, especially if you have been using other study techniques for marking the reading passages.
Part of me would love to give this 5 stars I enjoyed the content and approach. I have been following a system similar to this, but I like the changes in annotation it suggest.The other part me wants to give it a 1 because of the immature humor which sometimes feel borderline harassing and at times shaming, which even if it is suppose to be "locker room humor" is still inappropriate.I wish I could have absorded the content more without cringing at the "funny" commentary.So we land at a 3
This is by far the best book for LSAT reading comprehension prep. Their approach makes sense and is easy to comprehend. I went from missing 10 to 15 questions per section to only 1 to 2 questions, after reading and applying their approach!
It's no secret that I suck at reading comprehension. I had nightmares of myself during test day completely blanking out on RC and crying right then and there. I really appreciated the way this book breaks things down and takes us through the different structures that need to be taken into consideration during RC passages and questions. Totally recommend.
I went through book and saw no improvement. If anything, this book negatively impacted my ability to perform well on the RC section. I saw myself doing worse and worse with time and my their method is extremely time consuming. Maybe this can work for someone else but it just didn't work for me.
