From Pain to Peace With Endo: Lessons Learned on the Road to Healing Endometriosis by Aubree Deimler is a fantastic book for any women who has or thinks she has endometriosis or any family member that doesn’t quite understand the disease.Aubree share’s her life story, poignantly depicting the emotional and physical pain that is endometriosis, including the inability to have children. You can sympathize with her on the lack of education on doctors part as to proper diagnosis and treatment. Why don’t our doctors care more about women’s body? Why are the only options to pump us full of synthetic hormones or to put us into menopause surgically or chemically? And why, oh why, do we have to seek treatment at the same doctor’s office with pregnant women when we’re in pain and likely never going to be able to have kids?Aubree lays out an alternative treatment plan that includes removing all toxins from your diet and skincare regimen, as well as some more rigorous detox measures. One thing missing from her book was the risks of any of the supplements or detox methods she suggests, since most of them at the minimum can interfere with medications and at the worst cause death. While she suggests using herbal supplements to detox the body, she does not acknowledge that most herbal supplements on the market are in fact tainted with toxins including mercury and purchasing high quality, tested brands is a must.Aubree, for her lack of a traditional medical education, easily explains how endometriosis impacts more than just your girl organs, and goes through each organ system contributing to or hurt by endometriosis. She also offers solutions on how to fix each of these organs systems using non-Western medicine. I found peace knowing that I had many of the same symptoms as her, and don’t need to run to a urologist, liver expert, kidney expert, dermatologists and 800 other specialists that don’t understand endometriosis impacts the entire body.I almost died from treatment for my endometriosis. Last Christmas, I had a heart attack from blood clots in my lungs, due to long-term treatment with estrogen from my birth control pills. I was put on blood thinners to prevent further blood clotting and taken off of birth control pills. This led to my endometriosis being excruciatingly painful and bloody daily with multiple ER visits and mental breakdowns, all while on an oxygen tank & walker recovering from the heart attack.I was put on blood thinners and taken off my birth control pills to prevent blood clots. This made my endometriosis horrific, bleeding and unbearable pain every day. I passed out twice on the side of the rode and woke up in an ambulance each time. My ob/gyn ramped me up to 60 mg of morphine up to 4 times a day before dropping me for being too complicated of a patient. The high doses of morphine barely covered the pain, and the side effects like inability to pee or poop, acid reflux, vomiting, opiate withdrawal in the morning weren’t worth it. After landing in the hospital the 50th time, enough was enough. I detoxed from the morphine and looked for other answers to my endometriosis symptoms. From Pain to Peace With Endo provides solutions for that healthier, happier life I am looking for. There’s only part of the book I didn’t care for. I skipped the chapter on battling infertility because I don’t want kids (or maybe more truthfully, accepted from an early time that I would not be able to). From Pain to Peace With Endo is worth the read, and if you’re on a budget, the Kindle version is cheaper than your Starbucks latte.

it's a great read, especially for those trying to get a sense of what it's like to live with the disease. as an endo sufferer myself, I didn't agree with her chapters on infertility, and I even questioned some of the things she said she had experienced - but I did really enjoy the rest of the book.

Great book. I read this book to educate myself for my queen. It a lot of great information. I appreciate how it attempts to show that you can be healed in a wholistic way and that because you have Endometriosis it does not mean your life as a woman is over and can't conceive.Doctors may scare you in that way but I never believed it.If you want to be informed, read this book!

The best book ever!!! Kudos to Aubree for the book, blog, and facebook page.

Great read. A necessity for anyone with Endo. Plus, Aubree is a wonderful advocate and she really does interact with her readers on her blog and facebook. Great tips and advice. Must read if you have been diagnosed!

I highly recommend this book for my endo sisters. It's soothing to read Aubree's story and to feel like you're not alone. I learned more about treating inflammation and overall health. You really will feel better if you take heed.

Excellent on all items!

This book is incredible. It has so much good information. My favorite part is that it's positive. It gives me hope and motivation.

Our son was delighted to receive this book for Christmas. It is a great book for any child interested in film and movie making. Would love to see an updated addition published.

I bought this book as a replacement to one that was borrowed and lost from the library. It was shipped in a very timely manner and the wrapping on it was excellent. It is a great book and I enjoyed reading it very much.

I have to echo what another reviewer has noted -- this is a book for children. BUT, many adults will find it a real pleasure, especially if you do not already know the subject. DK books are renowned for excellent design and this series of Eyewitness Books is very pleasing visually. The only reason I give the book 4 stars rather than 5 is the slightly-too-great nod at the end of the book to commercialism and marketing in contemporary film.

i am hooked on this series. i love all the DK published books that i have seen so far. these are so well illustrated and so easy to read, it is like being in a well done art history class.

The other reviewer was clearly not aware that the DK Eyewitness guides are intended primarily for use by children. This guide is fully up to the standards of the rest of the series, with explanatory text surrounding beautiful photos.

This book should not be sold to anyone over the age of 12. With the exception of a few interesting photos, this book is a dud. No new points of interest even for the average film buff. Spend your money on something more satisfying....like chocolate.

RECOMMEND for children in grades 5-8....and THIS, 69=year-old, BIG kid! The entireEYEWITNESS BOOKS series is worth alook for EVERYBODY... of all ages.

This book is an excellent introduction to the topic, and may in fact be most accessible scholarly book on Minoan Crete to appear in recent years. It very clearly lays out the evidence and major questions surrounding Minoan architecture, and is clearly informed by the most recent scholarship. The author writes well, avoids unnecessary jargon, and his theorizing (largely via the idea of "identity") informs the discussion rather than just complicating things. The book is elegantly produced, with an attractive layout and many fine line drawings (though the photographs aren't stunning: if you want a picture book this wouldn't be your first choice). This is the place to go if you're aiming to bone up a bit on this aspect of the ancient world (as I was, as a classicist more expert in later periods), or even if you are just someone fascinated by the Minoans after a visit, or armchair visit, to the amazing and mysterious sites on Crete.

Despite the perhaps intimidating title this is a truly remarkable book. For an arm-chair archaeologist interested in Minoan civilization this is almost a rivetting book. The text is surprisingly lively, highly informative and complemented with outstanding illustrations and plans of virtually all major sites in Minoan Crete. Anyone planning to visit Crete for more than just a beach holiday should consider this as truly essential reading. It is substantially better than the next best summary of the Minoans for the layman by J. Lesley Fritton.

Very informative!

Excellent book, primarily on the architecture practices of Minoan Crete. Well packaged and prompt delivery.

Exceeded my expectations - good detail provided in construction methods and Minoan thinking

My daughter is specializing in architectural history of this period and was strongly desiring this particular book. I'm certain she found it to be very helpful and it will be a highly treasured part of her library as she pursues her graduate degree in this field.

A very interesting book with many details about the Minoan architecture. I would recommend it to readers who are willing to learn a bit more about the style, the influense , the material used and the development of the Minoan houses the villas and the Palaces.

I preordered this book because I knew it was going to be exceptionally good, as is everything offered by artist Jeanne Oliver. I own many of her fashion pieces and I follow her on social media and have long been an admirer and fan of everything she does. Once I received this book, I was actually blown away at how blown away I was. It far exceeded my expectations, which were pretty high to begin with. I will tell you what I love about it...I love the way she is so generous with her knowledge and her experiences. I love the way she talks conversationally. I love the way she is in the details of every single thing, so that you are not left saying, about ANYTHING..."I wish she would have included that..." -in fact, many times over, I was left thinking.... "wow, she even included that!" - the hardest part of finishing this book was that I wanted to stop every few pages and try what she was demonstrating and writing so eloquently about, but I knew if I did that I might not return to the book and finish it...so I devoured to cover to cover over about a week of evenings. The photography and photo styling is breathtaking too... so it's just a really pleasurable book to sit with and read. And a pleasurable book to sit and read is one thing, but this one also inspires action. This book makes you feel like you can do what she is teaching you to do, and it makes you WANT to do it. That is quite an admirable skill in this time of short attention spans and being on to the next thing. This will be my go-to book for art journaling inspiration and will also be the book that I recommend to others who are wanting to either get into art journaling or wanting to be re-inspired to begin again. I recommend this book wholeheartedly and if you haven't checked out everything else Jeanne Oliver does... I highly recommend you do that too! You won't regret it. Always a feast for the eyes, the heart and the soul. She is becoming legendary in her offerings and deserves every bit of praise she gets!

Easily the best book/magazine I have bought all year. Oliver is an excellent writer, her prose making reading such a pleasure. The authenticity of the author is felt through the pages and project she wants to take with you. It is very inspiring. Healing is so Important for self care. Oliver puts it front and center to draw from our life experiences to tell our own individual stories because they matter. All of them.I recommend this book. You won’t be disappointed.

I'm just gonna tell you what I said on Facebook earlier today:You guys. Seriously. I have no words for how good this book is. Which is rare. What Oliver's created here is completely unique. It's not just about making pretty pictures in a book. It's about excavating your soul's stories, collecting all the various threads that make you *you*, and putting them together to make art in a way that only you can. When I got my copy from Netgalley this morning, I thought I'd flip through it and go on with my day. Most art books, I go in, look at the techniques, see if there's anything new that I want to try in my own practice, and then, generally, they go on the shelf. Even the ones I like and end up keeping are often shelf-dwellers, waiting for me to need that particular technique. This is not how my morning went, y'all.By the second chapter or so, I was sitting in my comfy chair with a notebook, following a sidebar (just a sidebar!) of her advice to write down notes about all of your stories. Granted, she said to only take fifteen minutes or so. Two HOURS later, I was still scribbling notes and only made it to my late teens.Quick fact you may not know about me: I have a head injury. Got creamed by a drunk driver in 2003. There were days I forgot things like words and my own grandmother's name. There are large swaths of my life path that are foggy or I just don't remember. This morning, when I was making my scribbly list of stories, *I started remembering*, y'all. Things that were lost, stories that were foggy or forgotten.By the time I stopped for the time being (my hand was cramping), I had a WEALTH of new resources to draw upon. For me, for that one tip alone? I'd buy ten of these books. Then, though, she gets into her process, and through a whole host of absolutely gorgeous projects and unique techniques, she delves deep into those stories you've uncovered, and gives them the chance to be illuminated and seen. I've taken Jeanne's classes (which she has on her self-named site), and there are some projects that are repeats, just for the record. The Great Enigma: New Collected Poems, by Tomas Transtromer

From Publishers Weekly

Starred Review. The major contemporary poet of Scandinavia, and a perennial Nobel Prize candidate (so rumor has it), Tranströmer and his compact, sometimes grim lyricism have long enjoyed a serious following in the United States. This version from the Scot Fulton (whose first Tranströmer selection appeared in 1987) contains everything Tranströmer has published in book form. Tranströmer's preferred land- and seascapes, drawn from the "spruce-clad coastland" of his native Sweden, have not changed much over his 50-year career: flat seas and frosty storms, swarming birds and contrapuntally beautiful summers, from which "society's dark hull drifts further and further away." His forms, however, have varied impressively: Sapphic stanzas, haiku, imagist lyric, prose sketches and several-page sequences all speak to one another. A clear competitor to Bly's well-received The Half-Finished Heaven (2001), this more comprehensive collection concludes with the rarely seen short poems of Tranströmer's recent years. Some will note political undercurrents ("The language marches in step with the executioners./ Therefore we must get a new language"), yet Tranströmer's dominant moods are almost warily inward-turning while given to hope: "I find myself in the deep corridor/ that would have been dark," the poet declares, "if my right hand wasn't shining like a torch." “The books of his poetry on my shelves never remain unopened for long. I turn to him when I wish to come as close as possible to what cannot be said. ” - Teju Cole, The New Yorker“Tomas Tranströmer’s poetry permits us to be happily certain of our own uncertainties… Like the animals in Rilke’s first sonnet to Orpheus, they are alive to the god’s music. ” - Seamus Heaney

How can you write about a poet without quoting? And if he has already achieved such extreme compression of ideas as 2011 Nobelist Tomas Tranströmer has, what can more words add? So I will try to use his own words as much as possible, starting with a complete poem, "Eagle Rock," from his last published collection (The Great Enigma, 2004):Behind the vivarium glassthe reptilesunmoving.A woman hangs up washingin the silence.Death is becalmed. In the depths of the groundmy soul glidessilent as a comet. How unexpected is that word "comet," a moving body of light in the heavens, challenging the below-ground dark of death! This from a man in his seventies, robbed of the power of speech by a stroke some dozen years before. The brief poems from this last period have not been published in English before this volume, which shows the poet's development from young adulthood to old age. The image of the comet returns again in the book's final section, a prose memoir from 1993 describing his childhood and adolescence, thus bringing the life-cycle full circle: "My life. Thinking these words, I see before me a streak of light... a comet." After talking about youth -- the bright dense head of the comet -- he goes on: "Further back, the comet thins out -- that's the longer part, the tail. It becomes more and more sparse, but also broader. I am now far out in the comet's tail, I am sixty as I write this." The image of racing time returns, as most of his images do, in another poem, "A Page of the Nightbook" (1996): "A period of time / a few minutes long / fifty-eight years wide." And again in the prose-poem "Answers to Letters" (1983): "Sometimes an abyss opens between Tuesday and Wednesday but twenty-six years could pass in a moment."In his memoir, Tranströmer tells of sitting in Latin class while the students read out verses of Horace one by one then attempted their own halting translations. "This alternation between the trivial and decrepit on the one hand and the buoyant and sublime on the other taught me a lot. It had to do with the conditions of poetry and of life. That through form something could be raised to another level. The caterpillar feet were gone, the wings unfolded." This says a lot for the poet's love of brevity, but it reminds us that the butterfly was once an earthbound caterpillar too. Tranströmer's poems may be surreal at times, but the secrets they hold are by no means arcane; they are as universal as they are personal. His butterfly is no exotic species: "I love that cabbage-white as though it were a fluttering corner of truth itself." (Streets in Shanghai, 1986). The process of translation, which was Tranströmer's first inspiration, poses a special challenge to his translators, but Scottish poet Robin Fulton has been working with him for thirty-five years; his versions have the immediacy of English originals.Fulton also contributes a most helpful introduction. He half-advises the reader to start at the end, so I did. I thumb back like snapshots in an album. A music-lover consoled by lugubrious Liszt who in his younger days had thrilled to Haydn. A traveler in the cities of many continents, who ends as he had begun, among the heaths, forests, and coastline of his native land. A successful lover walking down the street when "All the question marks began singing of God's being" (C Major, 1962). A young poet arriving on the literary scene like a commando: "Waking up is a parachute descent from dreams" -- the opening line of "Prelude" (1954), the first poem in the collection. But what strikes me most in this retrospective glance is the elegiac nature of so much of Tranströmer's poetry, as though half his life has been spent preparing to write that final full stop. There is the foreboding of his magnificent poem, "Alone" (1966), an account of a near-death experience on an icy road. The trains that cross his landscapes stop without reason, and only sometimes continue on. But nothing expresses it as beautifully or simply as the second of his two "Black Postcards" (1983), in which you almost hear the voice of Emily Dickinson:In the middle of life it happens that death comesto take man's measurements. The visitis forgotten and life goes on. But the suitis sewn on the quiet.Unlike many Nobel laureates, Tomas Tranströmer is not a political writer performing on the world stage. He is a private man, a rare one who shares his privacy, and eminently worth reading.

In the forward of this book of poetry written by Robin Fulton He gave us new readers of Transtromer much sage advice which I did not take heed. Mr. Fulton's advice to all new readers was to "read back from recent to early work" which he believed would be more helpful than reading forward. Being a traditional and stubborn reader I took no notice of his advice. Also in the forward Transtromer told Fulton that his earlier poems were very much abstract and complicated. As he grew older his poetry gained more traction and indeed more understanding. The very title of this book "the great enigma" brought this reader to his knees halfway through the readings. The title is amply named as the definition of enigma is a puzzling or inexplicable occurrence or situation. As I traversed the oeuvre of Transtromer's works I noticed that my enjoyment and understanding of his poetry became more enlightened as the years passed. Struggling as I was going through his works I noticed many reoccurring events. The author's favorite color is blue, his writing references death and the past and also he shows a great l love of the sea and the night sky containing the likes of moonlight. His writings also took us into the wilderness of the woods which he frequented numerous times. On my journey of frustration in finding meaning to the writings, I started to notice some concrete understandings, weak though it was. Such poems titled as Song, Elegy, Solitary Swedish Houses, Weather Picture, The Tree and the Sky, November with Nuances of Noble Fur and A Winter Night whetted my appetite for more of Transtromer's poetry. The keys to my epiphany to Transtromer's works and there meanings happened in the last words of prose coming straight from Thomas Transtromer himself. Titled "Memories Look At Me" was the key to his total works. This was the last segment of the book. Indeed Transtromer reveals the heart and soul of his being. In doing so, the author really de-enigmatises his works. I fear "Word" does not recognize de-enigmatise, oh well the program will have to deal with it. You as the reader will understand what I mean. Fulton was right; I should have read this book in reverse. My mindset in reading this book went from three stars all the way to five stars. This is why when doing a review you must always read to the end!!!

A review of a Nobel prize winner? Not my place, but I will make a few comments here that are simply opinion.First, I'd recommend reading the forward and his memories at the end of this collection before the rest. Helps to place him in geography , history, and his general reactions to specific points in his life. Overall this collection reveals a very personal sort of poet. By that I mean he seems to write from his own recollections and impressions just to express the experience in words. He doesn't seem to attempt any commentary about politics or such like.Second, all the technical stuff related to poetry like meter etc. is way beyond my knowledge level, but as a plain old reader I liked most of this collection. It tended to the somber with little splashes of color here and there---generally as spring return to the countryside. Have to wonder how much the climate affected his life and writing.Last. Would I return to his writing? Yes, that's one of the beauties of poetry. It can be fresh at each reading.
