Her writing is so good! Nothing like some YA books that seem dumbed down in their sentence structure and plot. I loved all the characters and really got lost in the world of the 4 kingdoms!The first book was a refreshing retake on the princess and the pea! The main character was not annoying with voicing her insecurities over and over (like some YA heroines do) . There were plenty of surprises in the plot !The second book had a bit more magic and identity of the wolf was a very realistic take on who the real enemy is.The novella was hands down the best novella I have ever read! The story and plot were just as intriguing as a regular length novel!If you are in a princess and other world mood read these books!
These stories are so great and are in a boxed set as well, so what a deal! They are clean, though there is a slight bit of innuendo in the second story. Very clever retellings and I will be recommending them to my nieces when they are in their early teens. Can't wait to read the rest and I will be keeping this author on my to-read list!
I liked this series a lot. It was a clever twist on old fairy tales and I'll be picking up set #2 to finish off the stories. It doesn't quite reach the level of Mercedes Lackey's retellings, but it's definitely worth the purchase.
I just love these books! Melanie has an incredible gift for tying the fairy tales together and giving them a creativity and freshness that we just can’t get enough of. These book are entertaining enough for adults and clean so if your kids are interested in them they can read them too!
I love this series! She has done a good job with making the fairytales her own work. I am close to finishing the 2nd book and love it and I loved the first book. Can't wait to read the others in the series. Good for teens, No Language and G rated love scenes.
These books are fantastic! I wasn’t sure what to expect with a fairy tale retelling, but the stories are unique and the characters are deep, fun and lovable. I really just can’t recommend them enough. They’re clean and intriguing!
Enjoyed so much the retelling of the three fairytales, especially Little Red Riding Hood! Melanie 's talent is evident as she weaves the tales in a vibrant tapestry!
Melanie Cellier draws on traditional fairy tales to create her own delightful tales in The Four Kingdoms. Her three-dimensional heroines of each narration are captivating. I cannot help but care deeply about their outcomes. I am swept up by the sweet romances that are weaved into each tale and I'm grateful that the content is appropriate for young readers.
