THE SUMMER I LOST IT is a cute, quick read told through the journal entries of a 14-year-old girl named Kat. She's "fat, not just curvy," and she wants this to be the summer she finally slims down and sees what it's like to be the fit girl with the boyfriend.I went into this expecting to follow her to fat camp, as stated in the synopsis, but that's not what happened. It's decided very early on that she's staying home for the summer, and the book is her journal as she works to get fit on her own utilizing a gym membership and better eating habits. I really would've liked the trip to summer camp.Because the pages are filled with her thoughts through a journal, there isn't a whole lot of external plot going on. She's overweight, and works to lose weight. She wishes she had a boyfriend, and thinks she doesn't because of her weight. That said, I did like how and when the potential love interest was introduced. She didn't get super skinny and hook up with the hottest boy in school as a result, and I can appreciate that.THE SUMMER I LOST IT reads like a real life account of a young girl trying to get fit. I can't imagine that someone without weight issues would be able to relate to Kat much, but do think that a girl considering making changes like Kat would enjoy the read and it could work almost like a self-help book. However, I suppose the girl would have to find the book on her own, as I don't think it's one I'd gift to any pre-teens because I'd be too worried about sending the message that I think they're fat.The back of the book contains healthy breakfast and snack ideas, and a few recipes to help young readers dive into healthy eating.Read more of my YA book reviews at StoryboundGirl{dot}com. I picked up this book (Thank You NetGalley and Stone Arch Books!) expecting a middle grade book about fat camp. I was excited for that prospect. Unfortunately? There is no fat camp - the synopsis is very misleading. (And I would still love a book to match this synopsis!) None the less? This is a pretty good quick read.It is written in a diary format, by Kat a 14 year old "fat girl". The idea is great, she's working hard and losing weight. She has parents who are concerned that she is doing it right, she has a nutritionist and a trainer. She has a love interested. It's all the stuff great books are made of.The writing is great too, I found it fun and at times funny. I was able to read the book in one setting, which is something I can't do often unless the writing is great.My only complaint (aside from the lack of matching the synopsis) is that it was all too neat and perfect. Especially seeing that this book is aimed at young girls, I would have liked to see some struggle for Kat. Because we all know that dieting and eating healthy is bound to have some slip ups, and some frustration. It was just too neat and tidy for my liking.All in all? I really enjoyed this quick read.

my Eight year old ate this up. It's not brilliant or anything but it sure satisfied her tastes at this stage.

My 8year old girl loves this book so much she wanted to read it again and again. Too bad there aren't any others by this author.

OMGoodness. I FINALLY found time to sit and read through this new book Easy Keto Desserts. (I bought the Kindle Version, I always buy Kindle Version books, but I MAY also order the hard copy too!). This book is DA-BOMB! First of all...READ the whole first part (before the recipes)...SO much good information! I have been doing LCHF for 11 months, and it's been HARD! I got fat and pre-diabetic by eating...you guessed it...DESSERTS! So, when I went LCHF, I tried to go "cold turkey" and cut out all desserts and sweets. (Many people say that is the way to go). Well, I couldn't do it. Of course, technically I COULD do it, but I missed my sweets and was miserable. Then I found All Day I Dream About Food.com. There are a handful of other good websites too, but Carolyn's is hands down THE BEST one I've found. This cookbook looks like it will be just an extension of that greatness. Oh, and the last part of the book where Carolyn tells how to rescue mistakes is PRICELESS. I never, ever thought of doing anything with my many ruined low carb baking attempts (but never have I had a recipe from Carolyn's other cookbooks or from her website fail) So, Carolyn...whatever you are paying yourself, double it. Whatever you are charging for your cookbooks...double it. You've made LCHF very possible for me, and for that, I TRULY thank you. (and just FYI, I was prediabetic when I started, now my A1C is much lower (in the middle of the "normal" range") and my Endocrinologist told me that I have the "labs of a runner". I'm 54, and slowly but surely I'm losing weight, and my blood sugars are totally fine now...no diabetes for me!

I have NEVER written a review for any cookbook but boy I must stop and write one for this. The cookbook is so elegantly put together. There is a picture for EVERY recipe. The pictures are beautiful. I can’t wait to start baking!!!!!

Carolyn does it again!!! I now have all three of Carolyn's books and I love them all so much I also have them on Kindle so I can plan my menu and have my shopping list at all times. This cook book follows suit with her other two books. Beautiful pictures, super easy to follow directions and all of her recipes in her book give all the macros! There are a lot of dairy free options in the book too. This book too is the epitome of easy! Most of these recipes can be whipped up in no time when you are craving a treat! My whole family is Keto so giving them desserts is very important in order to keep them happy and this book makes them very happy! My son and daughter have already looked through this and have lots of requests! So into the kitchen I go!!

Carolyn Ketchum does the BEST desserts! It's how I found her blog in the first place. If your low carbing and your missing desserts, here's the book for you. I can't wait to try the butterscotch pudding and the butter cake. I know if I need a dessert for a special occasion I can always count on a "Carolyn recipe" to come through. Her crockpot cakes are delicious and couldn't be easier! You won't be sorry! GET THIS BOOK!!

This is my latest cookbook (Easy Keto Desserts) and I think this may be my favorite of all my cookbooks! If you are new to KETO you will enjoy how she gives basic baking tips. She also tells you if you must use the sweetener she lists or if the food will turn out fine using your preferred sweetener. This particular cookbook has recipes for candy, frozen desserts, cookies and bars, puddings, crusts, sauces, and more. There are also some dairy free options included. If you want to see more about the author and check out some of her other recipes (not found in this book) you can find her blog All Day Long I Dream of Food or check her out on Facebook in the group All Day Long I Dream Low Carb. This seriously is a game changer!

This is a very well written cookbook! Along with some absolutely delicious desserts there is a wealth of information included! Carolyn explains in detail how different ingredients work to have the most success with your baking! She also includes a lot of dairy free options as well and I have personally made many of these and I dare say...you'd never know they were! I have never had a fail with any of her recipes! She is definitely the Keto Baking Queen!

Carolyn Ketchum does a fantastic job of bringing good taste and good for you eating together in an easy to read (and lovely to drool over) book.Not only does she bring it! when it comes to recipes, she has valuable information on the Keto lifestyle, products, tools, and helpful tips and storage for each delicious dessert.

I just received Mrs. Ketchum's latest cookbook today. So far was only able to quickly flip through it but I think I would like to make absolutely everything in it. She is a fantastic cook and cookbook author. The recipes don't have mile long lists of ingredients and it doesn't take hours to make them. The pictures are beautiful and help so much to see what the outcome should look like. I am going to start off by making her brownies tomorrow. I have her two other books and thank my stars every day that I found her. She and Kyndra Holley make my days. All the other keto cookbooks I have come across just don't cut it.

I first read the Tao Te Ching in college. Somewhere along the line I lost that copy so I decided to pick up this one (especially since it had such high reviews). This copy seemed much different than the one I read years back. And I am not just talking about the author's choice to use female pronouns as well as male pronouns in his version (incidentally - how close can one get to awareness of Tao if one allows oneself to get hung up on seeing "He" rather than "She" in the teachings?).In one portion of this "tao de ching: A New English Version" ("Version" is the key word) the author chooses to translate "When the Tao is absent in a country,/ war horses are bred on the borders" to "When a country goes counter to the Tao, Warheads are stockpiled outside the cities". This author has written his "modernized" version of the Tao Te Ching and he claims to have been open in this fact, supposedly by him using the terms "A New English Version". When one reads further one in the notes you see the author admitting he does not even know Chinese (so his interpretation of the Tao is from other translations - and how he thinks the lines should read for poetics sake, or P.C. sake, etc).At first I thought I would not write a review on this book. But when seeing the author admit to what I had suspected it made me feel like I really got ripped off. If you are looking for a translation of the Tao Te Ching do not get this author's book. The author respects the Tao but this is not the real deal. I will be purposefully losing this book and looking for a better translation.

I had no idea what to expect of this book when It arrived. I turned it over in my hands and it was clearly very short in length, so I decided to just read a few pages while I finished my morning coffee.One and a half hours later I had finished the book entirely, along with my coffee, and I immediately knew upon completion that I would read this book many, many more times in my life.It was a highly profound, dare I say life changing read that dramatically impacted my perspective towards my own happiness and how I interact with others. Written as a collection of very short, almost poem-like chapters, often each occupying less than a single page, this book is a masterfully crafted guide to find real happiness and fulfillment in your life. It is a tome that empowers you, humbles you, and leads you around the pitfalls that so many humans fall into throughout their lives.It is not a modern self help book with life-hacks, habit forming tips, or other such articulations, but rather a fundamental, deep, and moving look at what makes up a fulfilling life.If you are someone who has discovered mindfulness, explores meditation, or ponders philosophy, then this book is, without question, a must-read.And if you are more of a go-getter. This book is very confusing to read because of the way its been printed. There's no uniformity; Instead of having one verse per page and then a commentary section, there's several verses on one page with different types and sizes of font throughout so visually it looks very cluttered and crammed together and it's not enjoyable to read. It looks like a cheap, self-publishing project gone wrong. It's such an important text, it's disappointing that they didn't take more care to make it more readable.
