In this second book of the Baker Street Cozy Mysteries series, our heroine Georgie Tanner has taken a tour group to watch a Revolutionary War reenactment. When a real bullet is used and one of the reenactors is killed, Georgie is drawn into solving the murder. There are several good suspects, and Georgie seems to be on the spot when a new clue emerges.I enjoyed this book though maybe not quite as much as the first book in the series. I like that there was more information about Georgie's lost fiance and I can see a growing romantic relationship with Frank. The supporting characters are always fun; Oscar, the neighbor, is a great addition. However, there were enough proofreading errors to distract in reading, and I also thought there were a few plot holes that weren't resolved (was Patrick Armstrong a good guy or not, why would a museum advertise a new find without actually holding it and establishing provenance).Anyway, it's still a good read, but I'd rate it three and a half stars. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.
I love the reenactment setting of this book! It created such a fun cast of characters and suspects. While I loved the first in the series, I liked this one even better, especially because of Georgie's relationship with Frank. I like how they're slowly realizing that they like each other and I'm a total sucker for the teasing banter between the two of them. I was honestly guessing until the very end with this killer and the twists made the last section speed by. Can't wait until book 3!
This very entertaining novel takes us to a Revolutionary War battle. General Washington, now President, resumes his uniform to lead a battle against the Whiskey Rebellion. Every year a reenactment of this battle is fought using replica rifles etc. This year the crowd, including Baker Street Bed and Breakfast Tourists are shocked when the opening volley leaves a general on the field...dead.Georgie Tanner, tour guide of the B & B has a mixed group with her on the fateful day. In fact, one of the businessmen actually tells her about the differences in artillery. This difference leads to finding the murder weapon but, with the victim having so many enemy's this case will be hard to solve.I was very entertained by this story line and the characters are so believable. Good series.
Georgie Tanner who moved back to work at her Aunt Cecelia's B&B helping her out in addition to taking the guests on tours of historic Gainsville, PA. She moved back home after her fiancé died, trying to get her life back together. Cecelia's grandson Frank is with the Sheriff's department and grew up with Georgie. The characters are developing and new ones are added. Her friend Kari from High School is in this book. Plus new people are always at the B&B. I totally enjoyed this book easy reading. New books are coming to the Baker Street Mystery Series.
During the annual re-enactment of a revolutionary war battle, Patrick Armstrong, the high school history teacher, is shot and killed. There has been an ongoing dispute between Patrick and his neighbor, Terry Brooks. Since Terry was the person who fired the fatal shot, he is the most obvious suspect.As the Tour Guide for the Baker Street B&B, Georgie escorts tourists to the various sites and events around town. One of the tourists that Georgie brought to the re-enactment is a curator from a New York Museum and he points out that the rifle used by Terry is not an authentic rifle from that period. This realization only makes Terry look more guilty. Terry claims that his regular rifle was missing and that he took the only one left on the table.Although Patrick appears to have been well liked by his students, he was known to have had problems with other people in the community.Is Terry really guilty or is he being framed? Can Georgie figure out who was responsible for Patrick's death?The trivia details and historical information from these books is great and really adds to the story.
Taking guests to the reenactment turns out to be murder for the history teacher. Georgie ends up in the middle of the investigation. She just be to figure out what happened to clear her friend.
Well Georgie is in the middle again! Taking her Aunt Cecelia’s B&B guests to a battle re-enactment Georgie finds herself involved in another murder mystery. As in book 1 lots of suspects with motives galore. Is the killer a disgruntled student, an unhappy football player’s father, a fellow teacher, a B&B guest, even an estranged brother? Georgie realizes that she needs closure to this death especially because she has never received any from the death of her fiancé. While she finds herself in quite a few scary situations, Georgie keeps her head & saves herself. I enjoy watching the blossoming of Georgie’s relationship with Frank. Aunt Cecelia’s curmudgeonly neighbor, Oscar, makes me smile as he responds to Georgie’s offers of friendship, too. It’s good to see Georgie finally moving forward with her life. Besides being a well-plotted mystery, there is a bonus addition of a delicious “cookie†recipe that I can’t wait to try! Chocolate & marshmallows, yum!!
The Baker Street series is a cozy, thoroughly enjoyable read. Fans of CeeCee James won't be disappointed- this may be my favorite of hers yet. No spoilers. Interesting and likable characters plus a knotty mystery with a side of will-they-ever-realize-they-are-perfect-together? Throw in a mystery that hangs over our heroines head and you have a wonderful book to curl up with.
