Tommie dePaola is one of our favorite author-illustrators of children's books, and the original "Bill and Pete" book is our favorite of his books (even more than "Strega Nona"!). His comical illustration of crocodile Bill climbing the wall of the Bad Guy's house never fails to get a giggle from my kids. Plus, my husband has created the most wonderfully silly voices for the unlikely heroes -- and for the villainous Bad Guy - such that even their recitations of the alphabet become BIG GIGGLY FUN.So we were excited to find out that there were not one, but two more books in the series! This being one of them!Alas, like the "Strega Nona" sequels, "Bill and Pete Go Down the Nile" suffers from sequelitis: a little contrived, with good characterizations in search of an equally good story, falling short with a predictable plot involving a field trip on Egyptian history complete with sphinx jokes and t.p. mummies and all the rest of it. Nothing as fun as the wry crocodile skin suitcase jokes of the original.But who cares! We didn't -- well, not too much. This book was an excuse for hearing those silly voices again, and that was enough for us.

This book is a recommended story in the Ancient Egypt Chapter 2 section of Story of the World. I bought it never having read it because it's Tomie dePaola.It's a cute little story about a crocodile named Bill and his toothebrush Pete. They go on a class trip down the Nile to see the sights of Egypt, inuding the stinks (Sphinx, lol).It is a little disjointed in the introduction of the "bad guy", but over all the story is cute without being overly long. It's a simple, short read meant for elementary school.

This book is beyond fantastic. I found it by accident and have wondered ever since why it isn't hugely famous and on every kid's bookshelf. Or parent's bookshelf. Or anyone's. I keep buying copies for people when they have babies so they can read it to their children. And finally I realized I wanted one for myself (I'm past 50, to put it mildly). So I bought one just for me. The illustrations are hilarious. The story is sweet and funny. Bill and Pete are great friends. And Tomie de Paola is a wonderful illustrator.

This is an excellent book to read to a child who is just beginning to write. It’s a fun read with Tommie’s wonderful illustrations. We found our son soon reading along with us. It has become a bedtime standard I out home with the kids looking forward to participate. If your family has as much fun as we did, look for the next book in the series, Bill and Pete Go Down the Nile.

This wonderfully illustrated book continues the adventures of a young Nile crocodile and his toothbrush, Pete (a bird). This is the second of a Bill and Pete series but is a standalone adventure that brings in mummies and a museum caper. I love passing this book along to young children, partly because I am an archaeologist who has worked in Egypt.

Bill and Pete are a crocodile child and his toothbrush. When William Everette keeps leaving letters out of his name as he learns to spell it Pete comes to the rescue. Later they team up to foil the Bad Man's plans to make Bill into a suitcase.Tell me why I got rid of the books my children loved. Now I'm having to repurchase them so I can read them to my granddaughter. Not very good planning on my part.

This is one of the cutest kids books I've read with my kids lately. It helps teach about ancient Egypt in a not so boring as a textbook way. Books like this get my son excited about what he is learning in history.

I rarely agree with the crowd, but, this once, I am on board with all the other reviewers:If I were looking for a story that was written to appease all the key points of interest to me, it would be difficult to find a literary work more on point than the latest novel by Michael Connelly. To be sure, it isn’t perfect, but it is as near the ideal police procedural as I could ever hope to read.BLUSH FACTOR: This is not a story to share with children or your church prayer group. Street talk includes profanities (eff-words) and the affection of the two main heroes, although not overly graphic, will cause blushing if you read it to others. In fact, the description is tastefully done. This definitely is a crime story for mature audiences. Mature, but not obscene in any way, shape or form. PG-17, not R would be my thinking for a rating.THE WRITING & EDITING: If you’re not turning away due to the blush factor, I believe you’re going to appreciate the quality of writing and editing – there is a reason the selling price is set as it is. Quality, big-name writers cost big bucks, and editors are well-paid to ensure the text is free of those persnickety typos, grammatical errors and misspellings, then, often, put back in to protect against copyright infringement.EXCERPT‘…led her out of the cell and back to the door to the Public Works yard.“You looked at the book and the photos, right?” he said.“Yes,” she said. “Everything that was digitized.”They walked into the yard, which was a large open-air square surrounded by walls. Michael Connelly’s Dark Sacred Night picks up where his two previous novels, The Late Show and Two Kinds of Truth, left off. Renée Ballard continues to work the late shift for Los Angeles Police Department’s Hollywood Division. Harry Bosch continues to work cold cases for the San Fernando Police Department.They meet by happenstance when Ballard finds Bosch snooping through Hollywood’s case files in search of information about the murder of Daisy Clayton, whose mother, Elizabeth, Bosch rescued at the end of Two Kinds of Truth. They strike a bargain and investigate the case together. Along the way, Ballard and Bosch investigate other cases on the side, but it’s the Daisy Clayton murder that drives the plot forward.As per usual with Connelly’s novels, this one is a page-turner. I started reading it after dinner and finished it before I went to bed. It held my interest throughout. Even the side plots kept my interest. What I love about Connelly’s novels is the way he moves the plot forward by means of good detective work, rather than an investigator’s flashes of insight. You see Ballard and Bosch working the evidence, piecing the story together bit by bit. This approach keeps you hooked, because you want to follow the evidence wherever it leads.Additionally, I love the fact that unlike other serial novelists that I love to read—I’m looking at you, Lee Child and Craig Johnson—Michael Connelly is smart enough to realize that Bosch is getting older and simply can’t sustain the pace, the intensity, or the beatings he endured (or gave out) in previous novels. With this novel, Connelly seems to be moving his focus toward Ballard and transitioning Bosch into a lesser role. That’s great, as far as I’m concerned, both because Ballard is an intriguing character and because I still enjoy Bosch.I’m not giving Dark Sacred Night a five-star review, however. I thoroughly enjoyed it and recommend reading it, but it’s not at the top of Connelly heap. I have two reasons for this: First, the side cases. One of the side cases is designed solely to introduce a character. Ballard’s side cases (an accidental death, an art theft, and a gruesome murder) are solved too perfunctorily. Bosch’s main side case is more interesting, but it’s difficult to tell whether how it ends is designed to set up a transition in Bosch’s life or to introduce a problem for a future novel. Second, a moment of intimacy between Bosch and another character seems way out of character for him. You’ll know what I mean when you read the novel.Despite this, I’m happy with Dark Sacred Night, and I look forward to whatever Connelly cooks up next year. My guess is that Renée Ballard will play the leading role and Harry Bosch a supporting one. And that’s okay with me. They’re both great characters.

Over the years, I have derived a great deal of enjoyment from Michael Connolly’s novels, and I always look forward to the arrival of a new one. I have read most of them more than once. When you reread a book, knowing the plot before you start, it is generally because you appreciate the writer’s style as much as his stories.It is sad to have to report that this latest book is a disappointment. It reads very much like one of those continuation books, written by ghost writers, that come out after an author has died. The writing is flat and tedious, the story not particularly gripping, and the characters shallow. Either Connolly has lent his famous name to someone else’s inferior product, or he has completely lost interest in the terrific world that he created, and is just producing stories mechanically, to meet his contractual obligations. Such a shame.

I found this through a YOUTUBE recommendation. I teach kindergarten in the public schools. I just received mine in the mail today and my kids will LOVE this. I already have, "COLOR MY FRO", which parents and students love. It's important for our kids to see and create representations of themselves at a young age. THANK YOU for making this available....and it is HIGH quality and affordable. I also appreciate that it's one-sided, because sometimes when you copy pages for the kids, and the pages are double-sided, the other side comes through. Awesome! I will support this illustrator if he creates another book featuring kids or boys.

I absolutely love this book it's a fun book every page in some way I can relate. I'm thinking about ordering another. The pictures are bold black lines and not very intricate which is ok for me. (Bought this on my brother's Amazon account) I would've liked this coloring book more if every character didn't have the same "big butt and thighs with a tiny waist" body type -_-. I was able to guess the illustrator was a man before reading the artist description on the back of the book. Some of the coloring pages were cute; but majority of them were just objectification of black women in cartoon form 😒. Definitely wanna tear out a few pages if you bought this coloring book for your child.If you want a good coloring book full of DIVERSE looking black women that's fun for all ages, I recommend "Color My Fro" by Crystal Swain-Bates and Janine Carrington

I use this book as a calming activity and the fact that every page is so fun and sassy, I get really excited to complete each page.My nephews had never seen a coloring book like this and all of a sudden they wanted to color with me at 12 and 15 years old. It is so unique! I am really enjoying it. I will be giving it to a lot of little girls for birthdays this year.

I bought this for my 4 yr old brownie. We both love it. I always try to find content (book, movies, games) that my daughter can see her reflection in, as her self esteem is being formed and solidified during these early years. I like that many of the characters have natural hair and voluptuous bodies (as she sees this in the women of her family) and it is being celebrated in this book as the characters wear these traits with confidence. The illustrations are beautifully done and everyone who's visited always exclaim at how nice they are. I'm looking forward to any new content the illustrator produces.

The title of this book should be Naturally Beautiful Coloring Book because African American women are not cute, they are beautiful. Also, the illustrator has done an unbelievable job of capturing the crown and glory of African American women. Yet, I can hear you thinking; there's no way he depicted all Black women. I thought so too, but Mr. Miller has achieved the impossible. Check out a copy of the book to see if I’m wrong.

Although I found this book credible, and thoroughly enjoyable, it was too short. Luke has always been one of my favorite Gospels and I looked forward to the interchange between him and Mary. That said, it was worth reading.

Very short. I liked the concept of the book but felt like this was her original idea that she shared with her publisher to give them an idea of her next works. I enjoyed it okay, but felt like if it there had been more to it, it would have been a great book.

The story of Mary, Mother of Jesus, is so well written and and helps us understand her feelings and love of the Lord. Roberta Dorr is an excellent writer.

I was sooo disappointed with this book. I expected something like her David and Bathsheba which I loved but this book did not develop the characters or story line like the previous book.

the book was outdated. I tried to follow some of the set up ideas and found myself frustrated. Then I thought maybe Evernote had updated its sofware in between when I first got it years ago and now. I decided to upgrade so could use more features. The book is ok but outdated.

This book is a must for Evernote users. Even though I had been using the app for a couple years, there were so many functions I was not aware of. This is detailed and nicely presented—good screenshots and step-by-step instructions. I refer to it often as I use Evernote all the time.

This is a really good book to explain some of the features to handle your stuff in Evernote. The stack feature is a hidden from most manuals and could be useful for additional organization of your family data.

There simply wasn't enough character in each key character to hold interest in the grisly, simplistic plot. I could envision the characters splayed across the action grid so the key points could be achieved, but never managed to find enough points of commonality with any of them to connect, empathize, or even sympathize with any of them. A nasty bunch of thugs existing in a cesspool of humanity stirred with voudou symbolism and the personalities of the after world that the spiritual practice recognizes. Really, a bunch of gods rush in to save the day? If not for the dialect an entirely forgettable and tiresome read, much hullabaloo about not much here.

The main character is a woman protagonist who fights through fear to save the ones she loves; this idea sticks with other young women that they do not need anyone to save them. The science fiction aspect relates to fans of this genre and gives them something they are interested in and also teaches important messages. Another big impact is the Caribbean culture; people under the Caribbean title will be strongly impacted because it is something we do not see too often that they can relate to and people of non--Caribbean culture may be impacted by learning more about the beliefs of others as I was while reading.My personal opinion of this book is that it is a great, fairly quick read. This book has something for everyone in it. When I first began reading I was quite skeptical and did not think I would find any pleasure from reading this book but I was soon proved wrong. Before long, I could not put the book down!Academically, I think this book hits on a lot of hot topics, themes, and genres that could be applied to many different teaching lessons. Female empowerment, culture, science fiction, and the importance of family make up the big parts of this novel, Each of those topics, alone and combined, send powerful messages that could be used in many different teaching opportunities.I would absolutely recommend this book to any and all people considering it. Hopkinson really wrote this book for a wide audience and I believe it has a lesson to teach everyone. This book is intriguing and will suck you right in before you know it. After beginning, you will not be able to put it down.

My 3rd Nalo book, and I'm pretty set to say that she is one of the best SFF writers. Brown Girl in the Ring felt more like a dystopian/ urban fantasy mash up, but it didn't fail to make me long for the Caribbean. Even with the setting of Toronto, the Caribbean vibes were present. I didn't, however, like the heroine, Ti-Jeanne.

Brown Girl in the Ring is not the typical Sci-Fi novel, but it still brings a lot to the table. Besides its modern urban decay setting, this novel also addresses issues like feminism and ethnicity. Brown Girl in the Ring is also an award-winning novel. The book has really changed my perceptions of what Sci-Fi novels can be. I really enjoyed this novel; Nalo Hopkinson does a great job creating an alien setting in the familiar city of Toronto. I thought I would be lost with all the African mythology since I was not familiar with it. The mix of African mythology and urban decay created a very interesting storyline. After reading Brown Girl in the Ring, I’m interested in reading some of Hopkinson’s other novels. I would suggest researching African mythology and deities as you read along in the book, I found it helpful to do so. Hopkinson also uses a lot of medical terminology throughout the novel, which gives it a scientific edge. We don’t learn much about our characters, but it’s refreshing to see a novel focus on a female protagonist.I would definitely recommend Brown Girl in the Ring to other readers, it isn’t a difficult read nor is it a very long book. It’s a novel for anyone, from young women to the old school Sci-fi enthusiast.

I must admit that when I first started this book, it was a little confusing with the multiple characters and names being thrown at me so quickly and with little background on who they were. Also, I'm not a fan of spirits and magic or voodoo- whatever is the most appropriate term. So I had some doubts. However, my doubts disappeared by Chapter 2. The action took off early and kept me hooked for the rest of the journey. The plot was filled with nice twists and surprises, and the Caribbean magic and ceremonies, and spirits that Ti-Jeanne became embroiled with, all added a spicy, authentic flavor to a well-written and thoroughly drawn storyline. Unusual and interesting. I started reading at around 7pm on a Saturday, went to sleep for a few hours and finished the book about 10am Sunday morning. It's been a long time since I finished a book that fast. This was my first Nalo Hopkins read. Very thrilling and refreshingly abnormal author.

I absolutely loved this book. Every one of the characters popped, the pacing was spot on, and I absolutely loved the magic/religion was based on Voodou. There is nothing about this book I didn't adore!

I have been on a quest for books by female sci fi writers and I couldn't have found a more perfect work of art! Nalo seamlessly transported me to a dystopic world full of Caribbean magic and lore! I recommend this book to anyone just wanting to vacay to another time and place!
