On September 4, 2013, James Comey was sworn in as the seventh Director of the FBI.A Yonkers, New York native, Jim Comey attended the College of William and Mary and the University of Chicago Law School. After law school, Comey returned to New York and joined the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York as an Assistant U.S. Attorney. There, he took on numerous crimes, most notably Organized Crime in the case of the United States v. John Gambino, et al. Afterwards, Comey became an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Eastern District of Virginia, where he prosecuted the high-profile case that followed the 1996 terrorist attack on the U.S. military’s Khobar Towers in Khobar, Saudi Arabia.Comey returned to New York after 9/11 to become the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York. At the end of 2003, he was tapped to be the Deputy Attorney General at the Department of Justice (DOJ) under then-U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft and moved to the Washington, D.C. area.Comey left DOJ in 2005 to serve as General Counsel and Senior Vice President at Defense contractor Lockheed Martin. Five years later, he joined Bridgewater Associates, a Connecticut-based investment fund, as its General Counsel. This book was intelligently written. Basically a personal and professional autobiography, I found it appealing from a human aspect as well as informational as to the various workings within the justice system as well as the FBI. I found that I grew to respect Mr Comey more and more as the book progressed, and, as angry as I was at the time of the disclosure re the Clinton emails, I now fully understand the torture of the decision he had to make. I do not see this work as partisan in any way. In fact, quite to the contrary, Mr Comey was true both to his personal standards for integrity as well as to his duties to his jobs and to his country. Sadly, his fate appears to the result of living in a world where integrity appears to be little more than a word in Webster's dictionary. I recommend all to read A Higher Loyalty without bias. There is much to be learned about self respect as well as honor.

Best book I’ve read this year. Period. Superb honest commentary on leadership. Well documented. I wished I’d had this job prior to retiring when I was in a leadership position. Regardless of your feelings on the current political climate - the ethics and leadership component is superb. And the honest, well documented total embarrassment of our current political charade is well documented.

I was pleasantly surprised by this book. Comey is a great writer. It is a page-turner that both my husband and I could not put down. I thought it would be a boring book about leadership, but it is actually a well-written, informative book detailing several major collisions between American politics and our justice system. Comey gives the inside scoop on his interactions with past presidents and other important political figures while summarizing the major fbi investigations he has worked and/or led. Having seen a few Comey interviews, I was also worried that the best parts of the book had already been discussed by the media. Fortunately, that wasn't a problem at all. There were plenty of fascinating details. In addition, although Comey definitely responds to his critics, he is most critical of himself. It is hard to walk away from this book without appreciating him as a guy capable of honest self-evaluation who can admit and learn from mistakes. That alone is a lesson in leadership and humanity.

I have to say i was surprised of how good Comey writes. He is detailed, he takes you into whatever situation he is talking about. Totally takes you into his stories.I can only imagine the "memos" he wrote! He has oh so many stories, some of them we know a little as were part of the news at one point or another. I finished the book maybe in 5 days?I also realized that all the cristism he got from the press and newscasters for the orange comment was hot air. He does describe him as orange, but so he describes everyone else in each and every story. Thin, old, hair, pale, etc. I think they did not read the book at all.I do recommend the book, and congratulate Comey for being such an entertaining writer. And i thank him for his service.And Lordy, I hope there are tapes! :) and from all that is happening lately.. they probably exist!

I listened to all of the hype about the book, and I assumed it was going to be an assault on Trump (which honestly, I was looking forward to). However, I had no idea that what I really wanted to read was this incredible book. James Comey made me forget all about Donald Trump and reminded me about the importance of honesty and integrity in leadership. He also showed me his own vulnerability and humanity. There is a section in the book (that I won't give away) which caused me to weep for his overwhelming grief. He discussed his short comings, his heroes, his sins, and the importance of leadership in our country. I was completely impressed by his writing, his passion for truth, and his love of country. I hope he writes another book. I would imagine he has a life time's worth of lessons to teach.

J. Comey speaks from the heart as he discusses his family and their life path, which has played a role in his ethical and caring character. His dedicated and wise wife is a true pillar of support. He spells out the incredible leaders and mentors in his life and career, who have influenced and developed his leadership. An incredible ethical public servant, who was done wrong by an out of control unethical idiot. THANK YOU for your dedicated service to our country Mr. Comey!

I got this book because I am interested in how we became who we are today. The author uses a series of entertaining and well-presented chapters to answer this question. In a series of bite-sized, entertaining pieces that likely are taken from her class lectures, Dr. Lee artfully uses anecdotes to present man-kind's history. It is easy to connect these lessons with who we are today. The ease of reading is such that one might do the whole, little book in one reading. Or, take a bite every evening before bed. In the end you'll better understand yourself and others, even those on other continents and beliefs.This is a book for all ages . Teen-aged children will find it as interesting as adults.Gert this book. You will not be disappointed, quite the opposite!!

A well written, interesting collection of essays. Explanations of various aspects of human evolution that are usually not covered very much in a more traditional approach to the topic. Highly recommended.

Clearly and engagingly written account of research and findings on the origins of humans

I think my first caution about this book is that the chapters are very episodic. I.e., they just seem to cover random topics as they occur to the authors. Now, some of these are very good. At the same time, some of them just seem a little off.In fact, some of them - and some of the writing - seem to be just special interests of the authors. Not the kind of stuff that would go into what seemed like a very general survey.In addition, she seems to always want to center things around herself. Now, this is usually fine - it can add a little interest to dry material. This time, though, it seemed a little overdone. The tie-ins also seemed a little forced.Finally, I found the writing rather flat. Now, the authors do do a good job of writing for a lay readership. The style was just a little repetitious, drawn out, and rather blah.Sorry If I'm a little critical. The book's not bad at all. It definitely doesn't deserve all 4's.

Philosophers wanted to answer this question. Scientists wanted to answer this question. Poets and novelists also wanted to answer this question. We have made many theories and hypothesis, We probably know more than our ancestors did, as we have gathered a significant body of knowledge about ourselves. But, the efforts to know about ourselves are still ongoing. This book reveals that the heart of anthropology is nothing but pursuing the quest to answer the key question. And, the author did an awesome job at igniting a spark in readers' mind. If you haven't thought about this fundamental question for a while, take this book and read through. You will realize soon that you are taking an joyful journey to ask the question again.The author does not simply go through the history of human evolution. Her journey starts from us, the modern humankind, Homo Sapiens. Why are human fathers different from males of other animals? Why does human live so long to have grandchildren? Why do we have different skin colors? Then, she brings on various anthropological archeological data. She also goes over how our view of humankind has overcome the Eurocentric view in the colonial era through scientific research, which I enjoyed particularly. Her storytelling is like having a chat with friends over lunch. It is casual and fun and so easy to digest. Every chapter is sprinkled with fun facts and thought-provoking questions. Still, she never loses scholastic rigor. She makes you think and re-examine scientific evidence with her. Sometimes, you will get a new insight. Sometimes, you will question a belief you have kept for a long time. At the end of this journey, you will think of yourself in a different way. Hats off to the author!

(Examples: I needed many ways to use echo, specifics on ping, set, variables, comparing strings with if statement and better error handling in Vol 1, setlocal, delayed expansion, the Replace command, which I didn't even know existed but will really help with my current project in Vol II, and handling virtual drives, pushd, popd, tasklist, taskkill, parameter handling and most importantly sophisticated For statements in Vol III, again with actual detailed examples.) Absolutely recommend, a must buy!!!

This book (as well as Vol 1 and 3 of this series) shows you how to write lots of cool and useful programs using batch files. I am trying to manage a small network & knowing how to write batch files is very helpful. Thanks!!

I used this in conjunction with the Modern States (free, online) program. It proved to be a great resource. Much of what was on the CLEP test was covered in the book. There were a few things that weren't; those items also were NOT covered in the Modern States Program - so the book was no less comprehensive. I was able to take better notes from the book because of the easy organization. It was a great resource and would work best in conjunction with other resources (even if one just uses YouTube videos to elaborate).

This is a very interesting and well written book. It covers several types of Bonded Labor in Asia. I bought this book because I had to write an eight to ten page term paper for a Criminology class I'm taking. I needed more information specifically on Bonded labor. This book definitely gave me all the information I needed.

This book is just as insightful as Kara's first book on the subject of modern slavery. The points made are clear and accurate. Definitely looking forward to your next one.

Bonded labour is the most common form of slavery in the world and Siddarth Kara's book provides a useful survey, drawn from years of research and interviews with bonded labourers, of bonded labour as it is practiced today across a range of industries in South Asia.It is in these descriptions and in some of the economic analysis of the bonded labour economy that the book is at its strongest. It is considerably weaker in proposing solutions to bonded labour. Some of his proposals, such as having a transnational police force in South Asia to deal with slavery are, to put it mildly, utopian, particularly given the current political tensions in the region, and problematic from the perspective of rule of law. For example how could the democratic accountability of such a force be assured? The governance structure that Kara proposes, of an oversight board composed of people from the Human Rights Commissions of the participating countries and some NGOs is far from convincing.Other of his ideas, such as fast tracking of slavery cases through the courts display a limited understanding of the relationship between continuing slavery practices and poor standards of rule of law: many of the effective solutions to slavery in India for example, are dependent on raising the standards of rule of law across a range of issues, many of which, such as the Indian compulsory education law, are not, ostensibly, about slavery.So while Kara is good on the economics of bonded labour and its practice in particular industries, he shows much more limited appreciation of the political, institutional and cultural factors necessary in slavery eradication. It is a pity that he did not work with co-authors on this book, to strengthen his talents and idealism with some hard headed appreciation of how political and social change actually occur.

I love this series and this book is no different. It's a little dark and gritty, intriguing and well written. A priest has to come to terms with his vows concerning confessions and his personal sense of justice. Can he keep quiet? Shay is on the case and per usual, pulls the smallest details out of virtually nothing. I love how the author pieces together clues until the whole picture is formed. I also love that Jackson and Shay seem to be moving forward in their relationship. Can't wait for the next.

The Shaye Archer series is a little darker and more serious than all of Jana DeLeon’s other series but don’t let that turn you away. This is an excellent series to get wrapped up in. In the latest installment of Shaye’s story, she finds herself investigating a crime from a confession given to a priest. She has no proof that it actually occurred, no witnesses, no evidence, only a confession with the barest of details to go by. It seems like an impossible case but Shaye finds a way to get the bad guy. You think you know who the bad guy is by the middle of the book but don’t be fooled, Ms. DeLeon throws one heck of a curve ball. The end of the book is quite a shocker when you find out who it really is. The best part of this series is how far those unexpected twists go. And these books are full of them. If you haven’t tried the series yet I definitely recommend it.

What a fantastic book! I really like all the Shaye Archer stories but Jana DeLeon has done a great job with this book and the continuing story. Shaye has survived a horrific childhood and with the help of her adoptive mother and her therapist she has carved out a productive place for herself in her recovery. To her mother’s horror Shaye has decided to become a private investigator. She has completed her internship and has hung out her shingle. Thus each story is a mystery solving her latest case. Along the way recurring characters make there presence. My favorite is Detective LaMotte, Shaye ‘s romantic interest. Their relationship is sweet and slow developing. My only sadness is I have to wait for the next book.

Nicolas Chatry a young priest ordained a year, hears a disturbing confession of the person confessing to murder. The seal of the confession means the priest can't disclose anything that they learn with the threat of excommunication. He has a tremendous burden in deciding what to do as the killer could kill again. On top of that he is confined to a wheelchair due to an auto accident which limits his ability to react to someone who is stalking him as a potential next victim. Lots of suspects in this serial killer mystery. Another girl has disappeared and the hunt is on to find her before she's killed. Both Shaye and Detective Lamotte are working on what turns out to be the same case, but Shaye is bound by promising to keep Father Nicolas's testimony to herself. The only annoying complaint is that the phrase "blowing out a breath" was used by numerous characters 23 times! It got to be a game as I kept track. The mystery of who done it and the returning characters made for a quick read. I think this is my favorite of the series as it really drew me into the characters. It helps to read books in order, but not absolutely necessary.

Once again Jana DeLong brings us a fantastic book about Shaye Archer. Spoiler alert, hope you don’t have anything planned for tomorrow, you’ll be reading all night. I like the small notes that Ms. DeLong brings into the story to bring you up to date on what Shaye’s life has been in the previous books. However, this is truly one series were I would recommend you start with book 1 to get the depth of Shaye’s story, her adopted mother Corrine and Eleanor the therapist. The relationship she has with Detective LaMotte all made the story real. When Father Nicholas Chatry who is in a wheelchair hears a confession of a murder, he turns to his mentor Father Bernard Abshire the senior pastor of St. Mary’s. Should he break his vows and what will be the punishment if he does? When Jackson LaMotte gets a case of a missing girl, Hailey Pitre; you can’t help but thing will the two mysteries come to be one. Can't wait for book 8

This series has me hooked and it's not my usual genre. A compelling storyline with a few teasers and twists. Quick appearances by Corinne, Eleanor and Hustle - loved seeing them. What I missed from this book was delving into Shaye's story. Watching her work through persoanl issues as well as the current. This book focused on the current mystery and Shaye's ability to relate, but no more reveals about her past. Of course there's the last line of the book, which is more of testament to how far she's come.

If Ms DeLeon had not written such funny, silly books as her Ghost in Law series and Unlucky, I would truly sorry about how in-depth her knowledge is about serial killers and there thought process. Chilling! When I first began reading this series I didn't realize how serious this series would be. Complete turn around from her other books even though their were protagonists in all of them. Wonderful read.
