This was a truly horrible book that edged on the totally old fashioned side of things. I learned absolutely nothing new that I couldn't have assumed on my own from pure common sense and the slightest bit of intellect. It was a very short "book" and I was ready to throw it across the room halfway through the 70 pages of very large print nonsense.The chapter entitled "Hygeine, Clothing & Image" was especially disappointing as it describes 2 pages in how to properly wash your face... (If you were wondering, it's with soap and warm water.) The chapter ends with the author's definition of what "image" is and states how many components make up our image (duh) and the more pleasing we are to the eye, the more we are likely to be successful receptionists....As I said earlier, everything in this book is common sense. If you don't know how to properly wash your face and need to be coached how to dress appropriately then you have bigger life problems. (Problems that this book can actually address!)But if you're looking for an actual guidebook on the subtle nuances of being a receptionist or an admin assistant that aren't completely common sense, look elsewhere. I was very angry at myself for spending my money on this flimsy little excuse for a "handbook" that I expected to gain some pearls of wisdom from but is now sitting at the bottom of my garbage.
It's a whole lotta money for a little bit of book. The contents are great, but for the money, 1/2 the price is more comprebal.
The love she has for her title, receptionist, and the humble way of explaining it step by step was amazing. She has given me a sense of looking back and saying I am a receptionist and proud to carry that title. Thanks for the tips. I've highlighted the whole BOOK!!!
Clear. Simple. Somewhat humorous, with actual tips for improvement. I saw the other reviews, and the one scathing review is off the rails. It's not just common sense! If all receptionists already know what's inside this book, how do you explain all the snotty little receptionists out there who are rude, disorganized and generally unpleasant?Don't listen to the haters.This book is worth it! It's darling little illustrations are especially charming. Also, considering most paperbacks are ten dollars or more, the price is fair. I highly recommend this fun little handbook.
